Biography

Edward J. Werder, ABD, is a competent and resourceful individual who possesses strong interpersonal skills, practical ethical behaviors, and values consistent with community policing and the academic environment. He currently serves as a Senior Public Safety Consultant to the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).

Chief Werder held the executive position of Chief of Police in three municipal police agencies, as well as, Chief of Staff in two full-service South Florida Sheriff's Offices. He has also served as a Professor at a community college and an adjunct professor and lecturer at eight universities in five different states. Chief Werder has published in The Police Chief, two chapters in The Police Manager, The Beretta Leadership Bulletin,The Florida Police Chief, and others. He was also a CALEA assessor and team leader for more than 20 years.

In addition to his executive-level law enforcement experience, Chief Werder started a police agency from its inception, transformed another from a troubled agency into one of the city's strongest components of government service, and served as the chief operating officer of a 6,000 member agency. He is prepared to lead by example, has strength of character, personality, training, experience, and empathy.

Chief Werder's education includes:

  • Doctor of Public Administration (All But Dissertation), from Nova Southeastern University, where he also completed coursework for a Master of Public Administration degree.

  • Master of Science in Management, with Public Administration concentration, from Florida International University's School of Business and Organizational Sciences.

    

  • Bachelor of Applied Arts, with criminal justice concentration, from Florida Atlantic University's School of Social Sciences.

  • Associate of Science, with Criminal Justice Technology concentration, from Broward College (then Broward Community College).

  • Associate of Arts, with Pre-Education concentration, from Broward College (then Broward Community College).
