It's generally recognized that interviewing is a critical phase of every investigation because it's through the interview process that a majority of case information is obtained and cases are solved.

In this course, participants are taught the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that'll enable the interviewer to conduct effective and fruitful interviews. This course is directed toward law enforcement, regardless of assignment, and corrections officers. Good interviewing skills can be applied to every law enforcement and corrections investigation.

The same techniques are used by an investigator interviewing a homicide suspect as a witness to a car accident or burglary. A corrections officer makes use of the same skills when interviewing an inmate.
