Politics and Policing

8 hrs

Similar in approach to the Assuming Command course, Politics in Policing confronts the issue of politics, both within and outside an organization, and explores its impact on leadership, as well as, the lack of leadership. While politics in and of itself is not an evil force, it can be used to stifle an organization, its leadership, and its employees.

An awareness of political influences and how to appropriately address them can actually improve an organization and its ability to serve its constituency. Far too often, it's seen only as something that compromises organizational and personal integrity. Understanding politics in the field of public safety, gaining perspective, and utilizing it as a tool, can enhance the operational capacity of any organization.

In this course, participants explore the need to balance the reality of politics in the workplace with actually accomplishing the purpose of governing, serving the public, and making communities safer.
