Communications and Semantics

In this course, participants are exposed to the communication process and how semantics affect that process. Group exercises are utilized to demonstrate the problems supervisors and co-workers are faced with when communicating and receiving messages. Additionally, participants are taught how choosing a leadership style will help in becoming aware of departmental goals and objectives. The course also focuses on building effective methods of assuring meaning is also transferred from the sender to the recipient, and back.

  • Defining terms such as semantics, responsibility for communication, etc.

  • Understanding the vital importance of effective communications by supervisors.

  • Understanding the harmful results of poor or no communication.

  • Identify techniques for effective communications.

  • Understand the role of the supervisor as mediator.

  • Recognize the Ten Commandments for good listening.

  • Understand the Ten Commandments for good communications.

  • Understand the five Cs of communication.
